October 2018

In this newsletter we share details of our Autumn term CPD offer.  Please take a look below at the range of CPD on offer and contact us if you have any questions.

Primary Headteachers will probably already be aware of the CPH CPD Survey which closes on 12th October. Please do complete it as this is a fantastic opportunity for schools to communicate their needs to CPD providers like us. The survey last year provided us with useful information and we were able to programme professional learning that responded to your needs. For example the survey last year highlighted the need for more science provision and as a direct consequence The Kite TSA has proactively sought to create a partnership with the national Science Learning Partnership and we are delighted to tell you that we are now a Primary TSA Hub.  Similarly the 'Math Mastery through Progression in Calculation' project was also in response to the CPH survey results. Thirty-six teachers from 12 different schools benefitted from this CPD and resources. One headteacher was so impressed by the course they sent us this message;

"Just wanted to let you know that my teachers came back from the Maths course hugely excited, motivated, positive, energised. Lots of very simple, practical ideas, great resources, great presenter. Really well done - the course will make a big difference here over time."

We look forward to receiving the results of the survey and endeavour to provide a rich and responsive offer which we will let you know about in due course. In the meantime we have undertaken our own analysis and would like to highlight a Primary Maths offer; Whole-school progression with fractions, decimals & percentages as well as Writing at Greater Depth in Year 6 and Writing at Greater Depth in Year 4 & 5 both with our partners Herts for Learning.  Please reserve your places as quickly as possible as we are sure these courses will sell out fast.  We also want to highlight a brilliant opportunity for professional development for Behaviour Management (Deputies, Heads, SENCOs, and teachers) with Pivotal Education.

If you or your school have any other CPD needs not mentioned on the survey please don't hesitate to get in touch and we will do all we can to accommodate.

With best wishes from Rae Snape (Headteacher/NLE and Lead of Kite TSA) and Suzie Young (Alliance Coordinator) and everyone in the Kite TSA

Arbor Insight

Frustrated by the DfE’s new slimmed-down Analyse School Performance (ASP) service? Arbor Insight's free benchmarking tool helps you get the insight into your school performance which ASP doesn’t give. Arbor is an accredited supplier of ASP data, and their simple tool is used by 10,000+ schools around the country. 30/10/18

We are now a Science Learning Partnership Hub and as such two teachers from our alliance have been training in preparation for delivering accredited Primary Science CPD in the Spring term. Watch this space for details of our new Primary Science programme in our next newsletter or please feel free to contact us to let us know what you're looking for.

Geography Bee

We're looking for expressions of interest for setting up a Cambridgeshire project to celebrate worldly knowledge, the world around us and the lives of people around the planet. Jonny Walker (another of our wonderful CambsEdFest presenters) has been running this event in Newham for 5 years and is ready and willing to help the Kite TSA set up a Geography Bee in Cambridgeshire. The purpose is to enrich teaching of primary humanities, to support core knowledge, to celebrate diversity and worldliness and to build stronger collaborative links with neighbouring schools.

Storytelling & Stand-up
for children

This innovate and creative day of CPD has been programmed for January 2019.  Tailored and facilitated with teachers and pupils together to explore ideas of humour and storytelling in the production of a stand-up comedy routine. The purpose here is to develop oracy and communications skills, to invite children to consider themselves as writers and to use their experience as creative fuel.
Teacher Recruitment

The DfE has been pilotting and has now has plans to roll-out a free national search and listing service for teaching roles in schools.

After successfully testing with a sample of schools in Cambridgeshire and the North East, the service is being extended to all schools in this region. Invitations will start to go out at the start of October via email, marked for the attention of the Headteacher/Principal.
On receipt, schools should provide the details requested so an account can be set up – even if you haven’t got a current vacancy. This will help the service delivery team to manage the scaling up of the service.

Whilst this will not be an immediate solution (for now schools should keep using existing channels alongside this new service), it is a fantastic opportunity to start building a national job listing service that is free to both schools and jobseekers, and ultimately reduce the amount school spend on recruitment advertising.

Primary Heads Survey

The CPH CPD Survey needs completing by Friday 12th October if you want your request for CPD to be responded to by the CPD Strategy Group and our Cambridgeshire teaching schools.  A chance to shape the CPD offer available in Cambridgeshire.

Click here to complete.  You complete the form as many times as you wish, once for each bit of CPD you are looking for.

To help you consider what you may need, the following information is now available:
  • Fischer Family Trust Aspire – latest school data dashboards available for 2018 and also the collaborate group information for your school cluster is available
  • Question Level Analysis – so you can be really precise about an area of training, e.g. “Fractions, Decimals and Percentages in maths”.  QLA is available for each school on “Analyse School Performance” now, plus the Local Authority are compiling reports for our individual schools that will be available soon
All of the above can be used to help schools identify their CPD needs individually or in groups.

Specialist Leaders of Education
Have you got a middle or senior leader in your team who has great skill and expertise in a particular area or areas? Could they be developing their experience and competency and sharing their talents through school to school support? If so, look for evidence that they meet all areas of the criteria and are outstanding in at least one of the agreed SLE areas of expertise. Please note that although SLEs themselves must be outstanding at what they do, they do not have to come from outstanding schools - they can come from any school. Applications are now open (1st Oct - 31st Oct 2018) - click here for details.
