Family STEAM Festival 2017

Over the summer The Kite TSA has been working on the programme for this year’s Family STEAM Festival. This is an annual Family Learning event, all based around the theme of STEAM – Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths. In case you’re wondering , we’ve made two big changes to the event – we’ve changed the name –  it was formerly known as The Family Learning Festival and we’ve arranged for it to take place earlier in the Autumn term with a view that it will hopefully allow us to take advantage of better weather and to be able to hold more things outside. We’re very fortunate to welcome onboard our Project Partner this year – Anderson Group; supporting the event both financially, actively engaging in the planning and even putting on workshops! The event is FREE and open to all Cambridgeshire Families. There will be a wide range of workshops and shows to inspire families learning together. It takes place at The Spinney Primary School on Saturday 23rd September 2017, 10am-4pm. Visit www.familySTEAMfestival.com , like us on Facebook and click ‘going’ on our event.

The Kite TSA Cambridge is committed to raising aspirations around the STEM subjects; Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. Many schools, colleges and universities promote these areas together, not only because the skills and knowledge in each discipline are important for student success, but also because these domains are often deeply intertwined in life and an inter-disciplinary approach will prepare students to learn effectively as well as develop a range of useful transferable skills.

Alongside organisations and institutions across the globe,  The Kite TSA champions the STEAM movement – adding A for ARTS, to celebrate and integrate creativity, art and culture in STEM education.
“Art is a human act, a generous contribution, something that might not work, and it is intended to change the recipient for the better, often causing a connection to happen.
Five elements that are difficult to find and worth seeking out. Human, generous, risky, change and connection.” Art Connects – Seth Godin

In addition to the positive transformative effect of arts experiences and education on young people’s lives and the ameliorative effects on their sense of well-being, connection and belonging The Kite TSA recognises that £8.4 billion is generated by creative industries every year.
Arts, Creativity, Design and Culture are rewarding industries for young people to go into and can contribute towards a very positive and affirming and fulfilling life! For this reason the Kite TSA works with a number of organisations or will sign-post to non alliance partners who share a similar vision in promoting creativity, culture and arts.

The Kite TSA organises a big event which takes place at the Spinney Primary School every September. The Family STEAM Festival attracts over a 1000 people every year and puts on over 30 free workshops and shows which help to raise aspirations across the STEAM subjects and encourages parental engagement in children’s learning.
